Situated in the Pu Luong Nature Reserve, Kho Muong Cave, also known as Bat Cave, stands as a timeless natural marvel. Its untouched landscape and rich biodiversity make it a captivating destination for those seeking to explore the wonders of nature.

Kho Muong Cave is situated in Kho Muong Village, Thanh Son Commune, Ba Thuoc District, Thanh Hoa Province, about 30 kilometers from the center of Canh Nang Town. Located in the core zone of Pu Luong Nature Reserve, the cave has maintained its pristine and unspoiled beauty, thanks to its remote location.

Reaching Kho Muong Cave is an adventure in itself. Visitors must first travel to Kho Muong Village, navigating winding roads and steep slopes, often accessible only by motorbike. Though challenging, the journey offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and forests, adding to the allure of the experience.

From the village, a dirt road through dense forest leads to the cave. The path is steep and slippery, with uneven rock surfaces, but the effort is rewarded as visitors delve deeper into the cave, encountering unique rock formations and the soothing sound of water dripping from stalactites. Research suggests that the rock formations in Kho Muong Cave were formed around 250 million years ago, adding to its geological significance.

Inside the cave, visitors may feel as if they are lost in a mystical forest

Kho Muong Cave remains a natural masterpiece, untouched by human hands. Its peaceful and mysterious beauty is immediately evident upon entering, where large rock formations intermingle with smaller ones, creating a striking landscape. Tall rock columns inside the cave showcase intriguing shapes and serve as supports for climbing plants. The green vines covering the rocks add a vibrant touch, enhancing the cave’s otherworldly atmosphere.

Beyond its geological wonders, Kho Muong Cave plays a crucial role in the local ecosystem, serving as home to at least four species of bats. These bats help control insect populations, maintaining the cave’s ecological balance and giving rise to its alternative name, Bat Cave.

The best time to visit Kho Muong Cave is from May to October when the surrounding landscape is bathed in the golden hues of ripening rice fields. During this period, clear skies and warm sunlight create beautiful light patterns at the cave’s entrance. However, the cave offers unique experiences year-round, with each season providing its own charm.

In addition to exploring Kho Muong Cave, visitors can also discover other attractions in the area, including the Pu Luong Community Tourism Area, Hieu Waterfall, Dien Ha Dam, Don Village, and Mo Waterfall.
