HCMC – The Ministry of Transport has proposed spending over VND3 trillion expanding the La Son-Hoa Lien Expressway.

The proposal has been submitted to the prime minister and if approval is forthcoming, the 65-kilometer La Son-Hoa Lien section of the La Son-Tuy Loan expressway would be upgraded.

This road serves as a vital link connecting Thua Thien-Hue Province with Danang City.

Under the proposal, the La Son-Hoa Lien section would be widened to four lanes. This expansion is envisioned to meet the transportation demand up to the year 2050.

The current La Son-Hoa Lien section, part of the Ho Chi Minh Road project, is currently 12 meters wide with two lanes, and became operational in April 2022.

According to traffic surveys conducted by the Ministry of Transport, the current traffic flow averages around 7,000 passenger car units (PCUs) per day. Projections indicate a significant increase to 21,000 PCUs per day by 2030, 30,000 PCUs by 2040, and 44,000 PCUs by 2050. As such, the ministry deems the proposed four-lane expansion as a necessary step to accommodate this expected surge in traffic.

A preliminary estimate suggests that a total of VND3 trillion would be required, with funding allocated from the central budget during the 2021-2025 period. If approved, the expansion project is scheduled to commence next year and be completed in 2025.
