HCMC – Authorities in Lam Dong Province have approved an investment plan for the civil aviation component of Phan Thiet Airport, with total capital estimated at nearly VND3.8 trillion.

The project will be implemented through a public bidding process to select an investor, according to the provincial government’s decision.

The approval aims to complete Vietnam’s airport network under the national aviation transport development plan for 2021–2030, with a vision to 2050, as approved by the prime minister.

The airport’s civil aviation facilities are expected to meet rising air travel demand, support socioeconomic development, and serve defense, search-and-rescue, and security needs in the south-central region and Lam Dong Province.

Phan Thiet Airport is planned to operate as a 4E-class civil airport, with a capacity of around two million passengers per year by 2030. It will serve both domestic and international routes.

The civil aviation component will cover about 74.6 hectares. The passenger terminal is designed to span roughly 16,000–18,000 square meters.

Total investment is estimated at VND3.797 trillion. The project will operate for 50 years from the date the investor is formally approved under relevant regulations.

Provincial authorities have tasked relevant departments and local governments with guiding and supporting the investor to complete legal procedures and ensure the project is implemented in line with approved timelines and planning.

Phan Thiet Airport covers a total area of 543 hectares and is located in Mui Ne Ward, Lam Dong Province. Construction began in January 2015 and includes both military and civil components.

While most military facilities have been completed, the civil aviation component has yet to be finalized due to adjustments related to technical infrastructure and investment procedures.
