HCMC – Laos has suspended importing hogs and pork products from countries hit by the African swine fever, including Vietnam.
According to the Lao Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the country will closely monitor import activities at border gates and international airports to curb the spread of the African swine fever amid a spike in infections in many countries.
Pork that has been smuggled into the country will be discarded.
In 2020, Laos suspended pork imports from China following the discovery of African swine fever outbreaks, leaving 973 pigs dead in Salavan Province in the south of the country.
