HCMC – The Long An International Port in Can Giuoc District, Long An Province, will commence containerized cargo handling service late this month after eight years of construction.

Last Saturday the developer of the port held a ceremony to mark the connection of seven berths with a total length of 1,670 meters, paving the way for the port to start containerized cargo handling service.

Covering 1,935 hectares in Can Giuoc District, the Long An International Port includes 396 hectares of industrial land, 239 hectares of service and industrial land, 1,145 hectares of urban land, and 147 hectares dedicated to port infrastructure and utilities.

The seven berths can now provide container freight handling services along with traditional cargo handling for agricultural products, fertilizers, steel and iron, equipment and machinery, oversized cargo, and overweight cargo.

As part of future expansion plans, the port will include an additional berth dedicated to liquid freight and liquefied petroleum gas services, three ship mooring buoys, and a guest terminal.

Once fully developed, the port would have a total of 10 berths with a combined length of 2,400 meters, which can accommodate ships of up to 100,000 DWT.

With an investment cost exceeding US$500 million, the Long An International Port is equipped with a modern warehouse system spanning one million square meters.

During its development phase, the port has already received ships of up to 70,000 DWT. Its cargo throughput reached two million tons between 2021 and 2022.
