HCMC – The construction of the Long Phu 1 thermal power plant in Can Tho City is being fast-tracked to ensure it starts generating electricity by 2027.

The Long Phu 1 Power Project Management Board, in coordination with the PetroVietnam Technical Services Corporation (PTSC), is carrying out the installation of boilers for both Units 1 and 2.

So far, all installation work has met technical, safety, and scheduling requirements.

Both boilers are expected to be fully installed and pressure-tested in the second and third quarters of 2026, ensuring Unit 1 begins power generation in the third quarter and Unit 2 in the fourth quarter of 2027.

Ha Dinh Nien, head of the Long Phu 1 Project Management Board, said that alongside the boiler installation work, bidding documents for the project’s main contract packages have been largely completed and issued.

Several packages, such as the chimney, fire protection system, administrative building, and warehouse, have already had contractors selected, with contracts expected to be signed in July and construction set to begin in August.

The entire contractor selection process will be completed in the third quarter, with full-scale construction commencing across the site in the fourth quarter.

The project, invested by Petrovietnam, has a capacity of 1,200 MW and is anticipated to contribute around 7 billion kWh per year to the national power grid once completed.

In addition, the plant will support the socio-economic development of the Mekong Delta region and help strengthen national energy security.
