HCMC – The Long Thanh International Airport construction project in Dong Nai City is running short of 40% of the required workforce, according to Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV).
ACV reported the shortfall as of April 14 despite efforts to urge contractors to mobilize more labor. There are currently 8,457 people at work at the construction site while the actual demand is 14,000.
The shortage is concentrated in critical-path packages such as the passenger terminal, airport infrastructure, and transport works, putting pressure on project progress.
Limited staffing among design and supervision consultants at some packages has affected quality management and slowed payment procedures, the Vietnam News Agency reported.
Working and living conditions at the site remain difficult. The large construction area and outdoor work expose workers to heat and dust, making it harder to attract and retain labor. Some engineers and workers have left for other projects.
Rising fuel prices have increased travel and living costs, while wage competition from other construction sites has added to recruitment challenges.
The Government has directed ministries to accelerate implementation to keep the project on schedule.
ACV plans to boost labor mobilization, add supervision consultants, and complete design, legal, acceptance, and payment procedures to maintain progress. It has also announced broader recruitment for multiple positions at the project site in Dong Nai City.
