HCMC – Long Thanh International Airport in Dong Nai Province is on track to handle the first commercial flight on September 2, 2026, said Lai Xuan Thanh, chairman of the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV).
During a working session with National Assembly (NA) Chairman Tran Thanh Man on August 8, the ACV chairman said that the airport would be completed and test runs would be conducted by August 31, 2026 to prepare for the handling of the inaugural commercial flight two days later.
The investor reported that the major bidding packages for the airport’s first phase are progressing on schedule.
Notably, package 5.10, which involves the construction and installation of equipment for the passenger terminal, is ahead of schedule. Since construction began on August 31, 2023, around 2,400 workers and 1,500 machines have been mobilized for the project.
For package 4.6, covering the construction and installation of the runway, taxiway, apron, and related facilities, ACV is pushing contractors to complete the runway by April 30, 2025— three months ahead of the planned schedule.
Package 6.12, which includes the construction of connecting roads, is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
NA Chairman Tran Thanh Man underscored the significance of Long Thanh International Airport for economic development, noting that it will create jobs for 200,000 workers both within and outside the airport area.
He urged ACV to closely monitor and supervise the quality of construction projects, calling for increased efforts from the investors and local government to ensure the project’s timely completion.
