HANOI – The maiden regular direct flight between Vietnam and the United States operated by Vietnam Airlines will take off on November 28.
The flight departing from HCMC for San Francisco will last for 13 hours and 50 minutes, said the national flag carrier, adding that the return flight from San Francisco will land in HCMC on December 1, taking 16 hours and 40 minutes.
The carrier will use wide-body Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft for its flights between the two countries.
Starting from December, the airline will operate two weekly flights between HCMC and San Francisco and will raise the frequency to seven flights per week after the pandemic is brought under control and the Government allows the resumption of regular international air services.
Earlier on November 4, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced granting a permit to Vietnam Airlines to conduct scheduled direct flights linking Vietnam and the United States.
Vietnam Airlines General Director Le Hong Ha told a forum on the Vietnam-U.S. trade promotion in the new normal today, November 16, that after the launch of flights to San Francisco, the carrier will fly to Los Angeles or Houston in the coming time.
