Many largecaps gain ground, driving VN-Index up

HCMC – The VN-Index of the Hochiminh Stock Exchange continued its upward spiral and gained 11.74 points, or 0.88%, over the session earlier, at 1,346.39 today, September 6, underpinned by many largecap stocks and strong cash flow.

At the close, the market breadth was positive as gainers outnumbered losers by 300 to 106. Among the winners, as many as 55 stocks hit their ceiling prices.

Trade volume totaled 944 million shares worth VND28.2 trillion, up 31.1% and 5%, against the previous session, respectively. Block deals contributed over VND1.6 trillion to the total value.

In the VN30 basket, 23 stocks were in positive territory, with steelmaker HPG and housing developer KDH reporting the strongest increase and ending up over 4%.

Other largecaps such as tech firm FPT, fuel stock GAS and lenders TCB and MBB advanced by over 1%.

The bank group also made substantial contribution to the gain of the main index as many stocks such as VCB, BID, ACB, STB, MSB, TPB and HDB finished the day up.

Many medium and small stocks, including property developer FLC, construction firm ROS, real estate company SCR and mining firm AMD, shot up to the ceiling prices.

Steelmaker HPG was the most actively traded stock on the southern bourse with over 48 million shares changing hands.

On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index added 2.2 points, or 0.64%, from the session earlier, at 345.63, with 96 winners and 36 losers. Some 184.7 million shares worth VND3.5 trillion changed hands, up 30.9% in volume and 25.3% in value against the previous session.

In the HNX30 basket, petroleum stock PVC and service firm KLF hit the ceiling prices, while other largecaps such as property firm CEO, asset management corporation TVC and gas and oil stock PVB soared by over 5%.

Lender SHB took the lead on the northern bourse by liquidity with over 21 million shares changing hands.
