HCMC – The Prime Minister has approved the My Thuan-Can Tho Expressway project, which will pass through the two Mekong Delta provinces of Vinh Long and Dong Thap, at an estimated VND4.8 trillion in investment, backed by the State budget.

Of this, VND932 billion will come from the medium-term public investment plan for the 2016-2020 period, while the rest will be from the 2021-2025 medium-term public investment plan.

The 22.97-kilometer-long project will begin from the My Thuan 2 Bridge and end at the Cha Va Intersection of the National Highway 1A, both in Vinh Long Province.

In the first phase, the expressway will have four lanes with a speed limit of 80 kilometers per hour. It will be further expanded to six lanes, allowing vehicles to travel at a maximum speed of 100 kilometers per hour.

According to the prime minister’s decision, work on the project will begin this year so its first phase can reach completion in 2023.

The Government leader tasked the Ministry of Transport with conducting investment procedures, being entirely responsible for selecting a qualified contractor and executing the project in line with prevailing regulations.

PM Phuc stressed that the implementation of the project must be on schedule and transparent.
