Name changes finalized as ministries to be restructured

HCMC – The Government Steering Committee has finalized its proposed names for the ministries and ministerial-level agencies that will be restructured as part of the country’s major political system shakeup.

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh has instructed the leadership of the affected ministers and agencies to finalize their restructuring plans.

As planned, the Ministry of Finance will retain its name when the Ministry of Planning and Investment is merged into it. The Ministry of Home Affairs will merge with the Ministry of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs, also keeping its name, the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The Ministry of Construction will combine with the Ministry of Transport, while the Ministry of Science and Technology will take over the functions and the responsibilities of the Ministry of Information and Communications.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism will oversee the field of journalism which is currently managed by the Ministry of Information and Communications.

A newly established Ministry of Ethnic and Religious Affairs will integrate functions from the Committee for Ethnic Minority Affairs and religious matters presently under the Ministry of Home Affairs.

State management functions for poverty reduction will shift to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment from the Ministry of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs. Responsibilities for social protection, child welfare, and social vice control will transfer to the Ministry of Health.

The Commission for the Management of State Capital at Enterprises (CMSC) will be dissolved, with its 18 state corporations to be transferred to the Ministry of Finance. MobiFone, a state-owned telecom company, will be transferred to the Ministry of Public Security for management.

Further changes include transferring oversight of the Central Institute for Economic Management to the Central Policy and Strategy Committee and adjusting roles for the Institute for Strategic Research on Economic and Financial Policies.

Several ministries and agencies, including the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education and Training, Ministry of National Defense, Ministry of Public Security, Ministry of Justice, and Ministry of Industry and Trade, will retain their current names, as outlined in Report No. 3792-BC/BCSDCP issued on December 31, 2024.

The Government Office, Government Inspectorate, State Bank of Vietnam, and several other entities, including the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, Vietnam Television (VTV), Voice of Vietnam (VOV), and Vietnam News Agency (VNA) will be kept unchanged.
