HCMC – The Department of Transport in Long An Province is finalizing plans to expand National Highway 62 to six lanes, designating it as a key project for the province, according to the Vietnam News Agency.
National Highway 62 is a vital route connecting National Highway 1 from Tan An City to the Dong Thap Muoi area, and linking to Cambodia via the Binh Hiep International Border Gate.
After 25 years of operation, the highway has become heavily congested due to increased traffic, causing significant damage to many sections. To address these issues, the provincial government is planning an expansion.
The project is expected to be included in Long An Province’s list of key projects for the 2025-2030 period.
The Ministry of Transport has developed a plan to upgrade and enhance National Highway 62, allowing for a design speed of 80 kilometers per hour, with construction expected to begin in 2025.
Following the upgrade, Long An will further expand the highway to accommodate six lanes. Currently, the local government is collaborating with consultants.
