Nearly 5,000 fresh Covid-19 cases reported

HCMC – The Ministry of Health announced 4,892 new Covid-19 cases this evening, October 28, along with more than 1,600 new recoveries and 54 deaths.

Among the new infections, 16 were imported. The remaining 4,876 cases were locally infected, up by 472 versus yesterday.

HCMC took the lead in the case number, at 1,069, down by 71 cases day-on-day. The neighboring provinces of Dong Nai and Binh Duong reported 745 and 618 cases, rising by 246 and 97 cases against the previous day, respectively. The rest were detected in 46 other provinces and cities.

Overall, the country’s Covid tally in the fourth wave, which began in late April, has surpassed 900,000 cases, including more than 810,000 recoveries.

The country in the day administered over 1.1 million Covid vaccine doses, raising the total as of now to over 77 million doses.

According to the national Covid vaccination portal, as of this afternoon, the Mekong Delta provinces of Kien Giang, An Giang, Ben Tre and Dong Thap were among the 10 localities having the lowest vaccination rates. Meanwhile, the northern provinces of Cao Bang, Son La, Phu Tho and Thai Binh were among the 10 localities with the highest rates.

In HCMC, its Thu Duc City and districts have begun vaccinating students aged 12 to 17 against Covid. In Binh Duong, it is set to inoculate children in the same age group by the end of this month.

In the northern province of Nam Dinh, the local health authority has been mobilizing medical workers to conduct its major vaccination rollout and set to give the first dose to all residents aged over 18, equivalent to around 180,000 people in 25 communes and wards, by today.
