HCMC – The northern province of Phu Tho has asked the Government for assistance to urgently address the aftermath of typhoon Yagi, including the construction of a new bridge to replace the collapsed Phong Chau Bridge.

The proposed new bridge will be 430 meters long and 21.5 meters wide, with a total investment of VND865 billion.

The collapse of Phong Chau Bridge occurred on September 9, 2024, when strongly flowing floodwaters in the Red River swept away its pillars and two spans of the main structure in Tam Nong District, Phu Tho.

On September 11, the Vietnam Road Administration recommended that the Ministry of Transport assign the agency to prepare an investment policy report for the new bridge. The project is expected to be funded by the state budget, with construction planned between 2024 and 2025.
