New daily Covid cases fall below 80,000

HCMC – The Ministry of Health this evening, April 1, confirmed 72,556 new daily Covid cases, down by over 8,000 against yesterday.

Hanoi City took the lead in new domestic cases, at 7,734, down by 320 from the day earlier. Nghe An Province came second with 3,226, followed by Daklak with 3,099 and Phu Tho with 3,087.

The health authority of Vinh Phuc today registered to add 13,498 cases detected earlier to the national Covid monitoring system.

Since the start of the Covid pandemic, Vietnam has reported over 9.65 million positive cases, with more than 7.6 million of them having recovered from the disease.

The ministry also reported 33 new Covid deaths in 22 cities and provinces, taking the coronavirus death toll to 42,526.

Over 231,290 doses of Covid vaccines were administered nationwide on March 31, raising the total so far to 206.3 million.

In related news, the Drug Administration of Vietnam under the ministry on March 31 approved the Moderna Covid vaccine for use for children aged six to 11.

One dose for children aged 6-11 is 0.25ml of the vaccine containing 50mcg of mRNA, or half the size of the dose for adults. The interval between two shots is four weeks.

Until now, children aged 6 to 11 can get two types of Covid vaccine, Pfizer and Moderna.

Covid vaccines are not allowed to be mixed and matched for children, according to the ministry.
