HCMC – The Ministry of Health this evening, March 28, reported 83,376 new Covid cases, with three of them imported and the remainder locally infected in 62 cities and provinces, down nearly 8,500 cases against yesterday.
Hanoi remained the nation’s biggest coronavirus hotspot with 9,326 cases, followed by Bac Giang with 4,186, Nghe An with 3,883 and Yen Bai with 3,795. Phu Tho, Lao Cai and Daklak had over 3,000 cases each.
Hanoi registered an additional 180,000 cases which had been detected earlier to the national Covid monitoring system.
The new infections sent the country’s case count in the current fourth wave to nearly 9.3 million.
Today, 122,730 Covid patients were declared free of the disease, sending the country’s total recoveries to nearly 5.5 million in the fourth wave.
Meanwhile, 52 Covid deaths were confirmed.
According to the Ministry of Health, some VND3.4 trillion will be needed to procure 21.9 million Pfizer vaccine doses for children aged five to 11.
Australia and the United States have said they will be giving Covid vaccines for Vietnamese children.
Besides 13.7 million doses pledged by Australia, the United States has announced to present Vietnam with 10 million doses. The two sources are enough for the vaccination of children aged 5 to 11 in Vietnam.
The vaccination drive is expected to begin in the second week of next month.
