HCMC – Viservice Application Development JSC launched a ride-hailing app in HCMC and Hanoi City today, October 8.

The viApp, designed by Vietnamese programmers, had earlier received a license from the Ministry of Industry and Trade. ViApp provides automobile and motorcycle hailing services, with the automobile service covering taxis, contract cars and trucks. Users can download the app from Apple’s App Store and Google Play.

Bui Thi Hai Yen, general director of Viservice, said that apart from selecting fixed fares, users can ask the drivers to calculate the fares of their trips based on meters, in line with the Government’s Decree 10 on the passenger transport business. ViApp users can pay their fares in cash or via the viPay or Momo e-wallets.

The viApp also uses a map provided by the firm, making the management of routes easier, Yen said. The app will soon be introduced to many other provinces and cities across the country.

Since the entry of Grab into the Vietnamese ride-hailing market in 2014, other ride-hailing firms such as Gojek (formerly GoViet), be, FastGo, Vato, Aber, MyGo and Go-ixe have tapped the local market. Grab and Gojek are dominating the ride-hailing market in Vietnam.
