HCMC – Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi is being planned for expansion to handle about 100 million passengers per year, placing it among the world’s largest international airports, according to the Vietnam News Agency.

The Ministry of Transport has done the planning for Noi Bai International Airport for the period of 2021-2030, with a vision extending to 2050, in response to the strong growth of the civil aviation sector.

French consulting firm ADPi Engineering has been working on the project since June 2019, assessing the current plans and exploring expansion options to increase the airport’s annual handling capacity to 100 million passengers.

Until now, the planning proposal for the airport, covering the period of 2021-2030 and extending to 2050, has been largely completed. The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has received the proposal and assigned domestic consultants to finalize the plan according to regulations, with an expected completion by 2025.

Once the plan is approved, the Ministry of Transport will direct the relevant units to announce the plan and work with local authorities to define the planning boundaries for the project.
