HCMC – Noi Bai International Airport has commenced work on a nearly-VND5-trillion project to expand passenger terminal T2.

Operational since 2015, the four-floor terminal has a total floor area of around 139,000 square meters. By 2018, T2 had reached its full capacity and became overloaded in 2019 when the number of passengers reached 11.4 million, above the designed capacity of 10 million passengers projected for 2020.

After expansion, T2 will be able to handle 10 million to 15 million passengers per year as its floor area will rise to 200,100 square meters.

Under the signed contract, the terminal expansion is scheduled to be completed in 660 days, with inauguration expected in February 2026. However, Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) is committed to get the project done by the end of 2025.

According to the National Airport Development Plan for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision toward 2050, Noi Bai International Airport will have a capacity of 60 million passengers per year by 2030, increasing to 100 million passengers per year by 2050.
