HCMC – The North-South railway has been temporarily severed due to Typhoon Kalmaegi, the 13th storm that has struck Vietnam this year, forcing the Vietnam Railway Corporation (VNR) to transfer passengers between affected sections to ensure safety.

Heavy rain and strong winds triggered by the typhoon damaged several sections of the track from Quang Ngai to Dieu Tri (Gia Lai Province), causing temporary blockages.

The railway authority has organized passenger transfers on trains passing through the affected area, particularly between Tuy Hoa and Dieu Tri stations, on November 7.

For safety reasons, VNR has suspended multiple trains, including SE21/SE22 departing from Danang and HCMC on November 7, and SE5/SE6 departing from Hanoi and HCMC on the same day. The railway authority has also imposed restrictions on the section from Binh Son to Dieu Tri, where trains have been ordered to halt at nearby stations due to strong winds.

Passengers holding tickets for the suspended trains can receive full refunds without service charges at railway stations within 30 days from their scheduled departure date. This policy applies to trains SE3 and SE1 from Hanoi on November 5; SE22, SE8, and SE6 from HCMC on November 6; and SE21 from Danang on November 6.

VNR said it would continue to monitor weather developments and provide updates for passengers.

In October, the railway operator had already suspended dozens of train services due to Typhoon No. 12 and flooding in Hue City and other central provinces, during which thousands of passengers were transferred by bus between inundated sections.
