HCMC – The northern region of Vietnam is forecast to experience widespread showers and thunderstorms on May 11, with rainfall exceeding 80 mm in some areas, while the southern region continues to endure intense heat with temperatures topping 37 degrees Celsius.
According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the contrasting weather patterns are being driven by different climate systems affecting regions across the country. While the north is under the influence of rain-bearing air masses, raising the risk of flash floods and landslides in mountainous provinces, southern Vietnam remains in the peak of a prolonged heat wave, affecting daily life and production activities.
In northern Vietnam, scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected throughout the day and night. Mountainous areas in the north have been warned of extreme weather events, including whirlwinds, lightning, hail and strong gusts. Temperatures in Hanoi and northeastern provinces are forecast to range from 23 to 30 degrees Celsius, bringing relatively mild conditions.
In contrast, southern Vietnam, particularly HCMC, will continue to face scorching heat, with daytime temperatures ranging from 34 to 37 degrees Celsius and exceeding 37 degrees Celsius in some places. Isolated thunderstorms may occur late in the afternoon or in the evening but are unlikely to provide significant relief from the heat.
Elsewhere, the central and Central Highlands regions are expected to remain sunny, with some areas experiencing hot weather and temperatures ranging from 31 to 35 degrees Celsius.
