Among 55 provinces and cities detecting the new infections, the capital city of Hanoi recorded the highest number, at 2,705. The central city of Danang had 783 cases. Haiphong, Quang Nam, Binh Dinh, Thanh Hoa each reported between 410 and 500 cases. Each of the remaining localities saw fewer than 400 cases.

In the fourth wave of Covid infections that started in late April last year, Vietnam has reported more than 2.27 million cases. Of them, over two million patients have fully recovered, including over 39,600 latest recoveries announced today.

Regarding the Covid vaccine rollouts, the country has administered 181.4 million doses as of now.

Yesterday, the ministry issued guidelines on monitoring Covid patients receiving home-based treatment and continued to direct localities nationwide to implement their vaccination campaigns throughout Tet, or the Lunar New Year holiday.

Local authorities were required not to issue new anti-Covid measures that go against the Government’s and the Health Ministry’s guidelines. Further, medical facilities across the country were told to comply with working regulations for Tet and ensure the adequate provision of medical supplies and services during the holiday.

The ministry continues to watch out for the Omicron variant, regularly work with the World Health Organization to get the latest updates about this variant, and direct local authorities to intensify anti-virus measures as well as handle violators of anti-Covid regulations.
