Over 14,500 new Covid infections reported

HCMC – The Ministry of Health today, December 1, reported 14,508 fresh Covid cases, with two of them imported and 14,506 locally infected in 60 cities and provinces, up 540 cases over yesterday.

Among the domestic cases, HCMC as usual took the lead with 1,675 infections, up 178 cases day-on-day, raising the city’s caseload in the ongoing fourth wave of the pandemic to 472,133.

Can Tho City came second with 989 cases, followed by Soc Trang with 757, Ba Ria-Vung Tau with 756, Binh Duong with 642 and Dong Thap with 610. The rest was detected in other localities.

Since the start of the pandemic, the country has reported over 1.25 million Covid cases, including some 1.24 million domestic infections detected in the current fourth wave.

Over 2,700 Covid patients were discharged from hospitals today, raising the country’s total recoveries to 992,052.

The ministry also reported 196 new Covid fatalities, including 68 in HCMC, 20 in Dong Nai, 19 in Binh Duong, 17 in An Giang and 13 each in Tay Ninh and Kien Giang.

Fourteen other localities reported fewer than 10 each. The Covid death toll now stands at 25,448, accounting for 2% of the total Covid cases.

Over 1.3 million doses of the Covid vaccine were administered nationwide on November 30, raising the total number of doses given to the people to 123.4 million.

In related news, people in Soc Trang Province aged 12 or older will not be allowed to travel to public places or leave their residence after December 15, if they have not yet got any shot of the Covid vaccine, the provincial government said today.

Soc Trang Province is set to complete the Covid vaccination for all eligible people on December 15, the local media reported.

To ensure the health of residents, the provincial authorities have called on people aged 12 or older to receive shots as soon as possible.

Over 81% of the province’s adults have been fully vaccinated against Covid, while 23% of children 12 to 17 years of age have got the second shot of the Covid vaccine.
