HCMC – The southern province of Kien Giang has proposed the Government to upgrade Phu Quoc International Airport, reported the local media.
Kien Giang authorities wrote to the prime minister proposing renovating and upgrading Phu Quoc International Airport in the 2021-2025 period.
The province needs relevant ministries and agencies to work out an investment plan for a second runway and a second passenger terminal.
The airport upgrade is aimed meeting the increasing air travel demand, contributing to the socio-economic development of the province and the Mekong Delta as a whole.
Earlier, the PM assigned the Ministry of Transport to coordinate with relevant ministries and the Kien Giang Province People’s Committee to study a suitable investment format to expand Phu Quoc International Airport to make it possible to handle 10 million passengers per year by 2030.
Phu Quoc International Airport is currently managed and operated by the Airports Corporation of Vietnam. Its 40,000-square meter passenger terminal can handle four million passengers per year.
