HCMC – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has asked the relevant agencies and localities to take caution, keep a close watch on Chaba, the first tropical storm to hit the East Sea this year, and not be heedless in dealing with the storm.

The Government leader has sent an urgent dispatch to the national steering committee for natural disaster prevention and control, the national committee for incident and disaster response and search and rescue, ministers and chairpersons of localities, asking them to take the initiative in responding to the storm to prevent human and asset losses, the local media reported.

They were asked to ensure safety for residents and vehicles onshore and those involved in coastal and island tourism.

They should prepare to evacuate residents from dangerous places, especially in areas with a high risk of flash floods and landslides.

In addition, solutions to protect agricultural and industrial production and prevent floods in urban and residential areas must be worked out.

Agencies and localities were also assigned to ensure the safety of dykes, embankments and reservoirs, and operate reservoirs effectively to contribute to reducing floods in lowlands and ensure national energy security.

Forces and vehicles must be prepared for the search and rescue work and ensure smooth traffic on key routes.

The national steering committee for natural disaster prevention and control was asked to keep a close watch on the storm, direct ministries, agencies and localities to prepare to respond to the storm and report issues beyond its jurisdiction to the prime minister.

According to the National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting, Storm Chaba may cause strong winds and waves in the Tonkin Gulf and floods in coastal provinces from Quang Ninh to Ninh Binh.

Provinces from Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien-Hue may experience heavy rains and face a risk of flash floods and landslides in mountainous areas and floods in low-lying areas.
