HCMC – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has requested HCMC’s Metro Line No. 1 project be completed on National Day, September 2, three months earlier than scheduled.

PM Chinh visited the construction site of the Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien urban rail line yesterday, April 15, and joined an 11-kilometer metro line test run from Rach Chiec Station to Suoi Tien Theme Park Station.

He said the completion of the metro line project, which links Ben Thanh Market and Suoi Tien Theme Park, would be a highlight of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Japan this year.

He also asked local authorities to start work on Metro Line No. 3A which connects Ben Thanh Market in downtown HCMC and Tan Kien Depot in the outlying district of Binh Chanh.

The 19.7-kilometer Metro Line No. 1 is now 95% complete and funded by the Japanese government’s official development assistance and local budget.

The HCMC government previously planned to complete work on the Metro Line No. 1 in the last quarter of this year.
