HCMC – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has demanded work be quickened on the 500kV circuit 3 power transmission line to ensure northern Vietnam can avoid summer power outages as seen last year.

The extended 500kV line, comprising four components, has a total length of 514 kilometers, connecting Quang Trach in the central province of Quang Binh to Pho Noi in the northern province of Hung Yen.

Work on the project began in October 2023 and is scheduled to be completed by June of this year, as per the prime minister’s directive.

During a recent field trip, the PM underscored the importance of the project, saying it will help cope with possible power shortages in the northern region. He urged local authorities to streamline administrative procedures and expedite land clearance to facilitate the handover of cleared land to the project developer.

EVNNPT, the project’s investor, has completed preparatory work on all the four components.

Forest land conversion required for the project and its environmental impact assessment have been approved by relevant ministries.

Dang Hoang An, board chairman of EVN, said that the project had faced huge challenges as the power line passes through multiple provinces while the timeframe for completion is tight.
