HCMC – The northern province of Quang Ninh, yesterday, May 22, completed work on a 110kV power transmission line linking Mong Cai City and Dongxing City of China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, paving the way for the import of Chinese electricity through Quang Ninh.

Mong Cai City announced a three-hour power outage to make it possible to connect the power line to the national grid.

As planned, Mong Cai and Hai Ha District, also of Quang Ninh Province, will be entirely powered by electricity imported from China, starting at midnight on May 24.

Vietnam Electricity Northern Power Corporation previously reached an agreement with its Chinese counterparts to buy 70MW and 30 million kWh of power a month between May and July this year.

The firm is a subsidiary of Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) and the power supplier of Quang Ninh Province.

EVN had planned to purchase electricity from Laos and China to maintain sufficient power supply in the face of the heat-induced surge in electricity consumption nationwide.
