HCMC – The construction of the Rach Mieu 2 Bridge project, which will span over the Tien River and link the Mekong Delta provinces of Tien Giang and Ben Tre, will begin in March next year.

The Transport Ministry’s My Thuan Project Management Board, which manages the project, said it is facilitating activities linked to the project’s design and selecting contractors in order to break ground on the project.

The Rach Mieu 2 Bridge project will be nearly four kilometers away from the current two-lane Rach Mieu Bridge. The new four-lane bridge will cost a total of VND5.2 trillion, financed by the central budget. Construction and equipment costs will account for over VND3 trillion and the rest will go to site clearance and project management.

Once operational, the project is expected to meet the high transport demand on National Highway 60, ease traffic congestion facing the existing Rach Mieu Bridge on days with heavy traffic and promote socioeconomic growth in the two provinces, especially the delta, according to the ministry.
