HCMC – The government of Danang City yesterday, March 28, opened a 950-meter tunnel to traffic in the inner-city district of Hai Chau.

The tunnel is part of a project to upgrade a three-storey intersection west of the Tran Thi Ly Bridge in the district.

Under the project, the upper story, which is 186 meters long and links to the September 2 street, was opened to traffic in August last year. The tunnel and a traffic circle on the ground were inaugurated today. The project costs over VND723 billion and was implemented from March 2020 to March 2022.

The two-lane tunnel is 14.5 meters wide, with the road leading to the tunnel measuring 15.5 meters in length.

Nguyen Minh Huy, director of the Danang management board of traffic project construction and investment, which is the project’s investor and operator, said the tunnel is expected to help ease traffic congestion during rush hour when vehicles enter and exit wedding centers on the September 2 street and enhance the connectivity between the Danang International Airport and the coastal area in the western part of the city.
