Serious mine accident in Quang Ninh causes five deaths

HCMC – A serious workplace accident at a coal mining site operated by the Hon Gai Coal Company in Halong City, Quang Ninh Province, has left five workers dead.

According to the Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin), the incident occurred around 10:10 p.m. on July 29. A group of five workers from Hon Gai Coal Company-TKV were working at the hydraulic support frame ZH1600/16/24 level -110, seam 12. This area is part of the underground mining project for the extended Suoi Lai mine – phase one, managed by Hon Gai Coal Company.

Upon learning of the incident, Nguyen Xuan Ky, the Quang Ninh Party Secretary, immediately directed relevant authorities to the site, where they coordinated with senior leaders of Vinacomin to dispatch rescue teams.

By 5:28 a.m. on July 30, the search and rescue operation had concluded, confirming the tragic death of the five workers involved. The cause of the accident is currently under investigation.
