HCMC – The Vietnam Military Medical Academy today, January 20, continued to inject 17 volunteers with the second shot of the Covid-19 vaccine, Nano Covax, with a dosage of 25 micrograms.

They are members of a group of 20 volunteers participating in the human trial of the vaccine with a dosage of 25 micrograms, with the first three members getting the second injection on January 14. The health of the three volunteers is stable.

Meanwhile, the first three volunteers of a group of 20 people set to get the Covid-19 vaccine with a dosage of 50 micrograms were also given their second shot today, three days earlier than planned.

In addition, 20 volunteers of a group who agreed to be injected with the highest dosage of 75 micrograms had earlier got the first shot.

As of now, Vietnam is halfway toward completing the first phase of the human trial of the vaccine, VietnamPlus news site reported.

Associate Professor Ho Anh Son, deputy head of the Institute of Biomedicine and Pharmacy under the Vietnam Military Medical Academy, said that given the test results of the volunteers getting the vaccine seven, 14 and 28 days ago, the Nano Covax, produced by Nanogen Pharmaceutical Biotechnology JSC, has worked safely and generated a strong immune response.

Besides Nanogen, three other drug makers in Vietnam—the Company for Vaccine and Biological Production No.1, the Khanh Hoa-based Institute of Vaccines and Medical Biologicals (IVAC) and the Center for Research and Production of Vaccines and Biologicals—are developing Covid-19 vaccines.

Vietnam will begin human trials of the second Covid-19 vaccine, which has been produced by IVAC, Covivax, tomorrow, January 21. In the first phase, the vaccine will be given to 120 volunteers aged from 18 to 59 to measure safety and to confirm that it stimulates the immune system.
