CAN THO – Although work on the Rach Mieu 2 Bridge project connecting Tien Giang and Ben Tre provinces started seven months ago, site clearance has not been completed.

Nearly VND445 billion, or 72% of the capital for site clearance compensation, has been disbursed in the Rach Mieu 2 Bridge project until now, according to the Ben Tre Transportation Works Construction Investment Project Management Authority.

However, Ben Tre Province has just handed over nearly 101,000 square meters, or 28% of the allotted land area for the contractors.

Meanwhile, the handover of cleared land in Tien Giang Province has just been 2.7% completed.

Due to the slow site clearance, work on the bridge project has started only on a 2-kilometer road section in Ben Tre Province, while Tien Giang Province is still waiting for the handover of cleared land.

The Rach Mieu 2 Bridge Project got off the ground on March 29, requiring an investment of over VND5.175 trillion from the State budget.

With a total length of 17.6 kilometers inclusive of the approach roads, the bridge will start from the Dong Tam intersection in Chau Thanh District of Tien Giang and end on the National Highway 60 section passing through Ben Tre.

The Rach Mieu 2 Bridge project will be completed and put into operation in 2025.
