HCMC – Six people in HCMC’s Districts 5, 6, 10 and Tan Phu who had been in close contact with the country’s 1,553rd Covid-19 patient have tested negative for the disease once, according to the HCMC Center for Disease Control.

On January 28, HCMC Vice Chairman Vo Van Hoan chaired an online meeting with the municipal steering committee for Covid-19 infection prevention and control, the local media reported.

At the meeting, director of the HCMC Department of Health Nguyen Tan Binh said the city had found eight people who had been in close contact with the 1,553rd Covid-19 patient. The testing results of two people have yet to be produced.

On the same day, the municipal Department of Health, at an online meeting with leaders of 24 districts’ medical centers, asked districts to get ready to trace people who have close contact with infected cases, those suspected of being infected with Covid-19 and those returning from pandemic hotspots, and enhance the management of quarantine centers.

In addition, Covid-19 prevention and control measures must be enhanced at medical centers, while people with symptoms of fever, cough and shortness of breath must be supervised.

Medical centers were required to boost education activities and apply information technology to the traceability work.

Binh said the municipal health sector would be on the highest alert and get prepared for all situations.

Local residents should stay calm, get official information from the competent agencies and conduct pandemic prevention and control measures.

From 6 p.m. on January 27 to 6 p.m. today, January 28, Vietnam reported 91 new Covid-19 cases, including seven imported cases and 84 locally-transmitted cases in Hai Duong and Quang Ninh provinces.

Six others, aged from 22 to 86, are residents of Hanoi, HCMC and Tien Giang and have been quarantined in Danang City upon arrival in Vietnam.

They flew from the United States, transited in South Korea and later arrived at Danang International Airport on the VN431 flight on January 13.

Their third testing results came back positive on January 27. They are being quarantined and treated at the Danang Lung Hospital.
