Stocks extend rally for third day

HCMC – The Hochiminh Stock Exchange continued positive movements as the VN-Index extended its gain for the third straight day, closing up 8.19 points at the close today, October 6.

With the number of gainers more than doubling that of losers by 274 to 129, the main index gained 0.6% from the session earlier, at 1,362.82 points.

Trade volume totaled 637 million shares worth VND19.4 trillion, almost unchanged from the day earlier. Some 43 million shares valued at VND2 trillion were traded in block deals.

Among bank stocks, lender TCB made the strongest rise of 2.5% and reported a matching volume of 8.6 million shares. Other lenders, including TPB, LPB and MBB, rose slightly.

Many securities tickers such as BSI, FTS, VDS and APG continued their upward spiral at the close, while the group of steel stocks became major contributors on the southern bourse, with POM, TLH and TNI jumping by over 2% each.

Steelmaker HPG ended up 1.45% and took lead by liquidity on bourse with 26.8 million shares changing hands.

Other major drivers were gas firm GAS, electricity stock POW, financial investment company TCH and property stock BCG.

On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index improved 1.97 points, or 0.54%, from the previous day, at 368.47, with 137 advancers and 77 decliners.

Investment and trading company TNG stole the limelight as it closed at the ceiling price and was the most actively traded stock on the northern market with 8.2 million shares.

Other actively traded tickers were fuel stock PVS, property group CEO, realty firm NDN and trading and service firm KLF, with a matching volume of over three million shares each.
