Tough battle against corruption

Discussions at the National Assembly sitting, which ended November 29, show that the strong determination in fighting corruption has yielded encouraging results, but huge challenges remain to be tackled in the coming time. The National Assembly (NA) spent a session on November 21, 2023 to review efforts to fight corruption in one year between early last November and the end of this September. NA deputies noted that the fight against corruption remained the top priority of the Party and the State, and encouraging results have been achieved. Accordingly, as many as 55 people serving as heads or deputy heads of State agencies have been held accountable for corruption within their organizations; 13 of them have been prosecuted and the remaining 42 disciplined. The Government in a report admitted that “corrupt practices have become complex, with many cases bearing the hallmark of interest groups; assets stemming from corruption are of high value, with foreign involvement; acts of corruption are seen not only in the public sector but also in the private one as well.” Seconding this point, the NA Legal Committee and several NA deputies observed that corruption and wrongdoing are still rampant in multiple sectors.
