Education, sustainability key to strong Vietnam-New Zealand ties

In an exclusive interview with The Saigon Times, Scott James, New Zealand’s trade commissioner and consul general in HCMC, highlighted education and sustainable development as central pillars of the deepening strategic partnership between Vietnam and New Zealand. He emphasized the increasing number of Vietnamese students in New Zealand and outlined collaborative efforts to help Vietnam transition toward a greener future. The Saigon Times: How would you evaluate the strategic partnership between Vietnam and New Zealand in recent years? – Consul General Scott James: Bilateral relations between our two countries are flourishing, and it is incredibly rewarding to see this progress. This positive momentum stems from the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1975, and engagement has been strong ever since. Notably, the upgrade to a Strategic Partnership in 2020 has elevated our relationship to new heights. In my role, I prioritize education and trade, which are at the core of this strengthened partnership. Both New Zealand and Vietnam are members of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).
