HCMC – Tan Son Nhat International Airport in HCMC has remained overwhelmed with rising air passenger traffic as revelers have kept coming back to the southern city following the Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday.

The airport is expected to handle a record high of 151,000 passengers today, February 16, the seventh day of the Lunar New Year.

Data from the Southern Airports Authority showed that the airport has over 960 flights scheduled for the day. Of these, around 95,000 passengers will arrive while around 56,000 others will depart, primarily on domestic routes.

“This sets a new daily record for passenger traffic at Tan Son Nhat during the Tet holiday. On February 14, the 5th day of Tet, the airport handled 148,000 passengers,” said a representative of the airport.

To meet the surge in travel demand during Tet, Tan Son has been prepared to handle between 860 and 900 flights per day from January 26 to February 24, catering to an average of 135,000-140,000 passengers per day.

With the heightened air traffic, airport authorities have redoubled their efforts to ensure security, safety, and orderly traffic flow in the post-Tet period.
