HCMC – The HCMC government is planning to launch around 20 new bus routes connecting to Terminal T3 of Tan Son Nhat International Airport, aiming to ease traffic congestion once the terminal becomes operational.
The city’s Department of Transport has submitted the proposed plan to the Ministry of Construction, the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV), and Tan Son Nhat, according to the Vietnam News Agency.
In collaboration with Bach Khoa Technology Corporation, the department has developed a network plan for bus connections in the Tan Son Nhat Airport area, including direct access to Terminal T3.
The proposed routes are designed to provide modern, high-quality public transportation services that meet growing travel demand and help reduce traffic pressure around the airport, officials said.
Authorities have requested the airport to allocate five to seven zones near the terminal’s arrival area for bus pick-up and drop-off.
Tan Son Nhat is the largest airport in southern Vietnam, serving up to 150,000 passengers daily during peak periods. Terminal T3 is expected to open around April 30, increasing the airport’s total annual capacity to 50 million passengers.
Given the high volume of travelers, the airport’s internal traffic system and connecting roads often face severe congestion, particularly during peak hours.
