HCMC – The Vietnam General Confederation of Labor said it would coordinate with the Ministry of Home Affairs to propose swapping a working day to create a four-day break for Vietnam Culture Day on November 24, and submit it to the prime minister for consideration.
The proposal would shift the working day on Monday, November 23, to Saturday, December 5, allowing an uninterrupted holiday from November 21 to November 24, 2026, following feedback from workers.
The country’s top labor union body said the plan requires further review due to regulations. It is working with the Ministry of Home Affairs to develop an option for the Government to decide.
It also proposed reviewing regulations to allow more flexible arrangements in special cases where public holidays fall close together, while maintaining the principle of compensatory leave.
The National Assembly earlier approved a resolution on cultural development, effective July 1, 2026, designating November 24 as Vietnam Culture Day, with employees in the public sector entitled to a paid day off.
