Tech giants pay VND6.2 trillion in taxes in eight months

HCMC – The General Department of Taxation has reported that foreign suppliers have paid over VND6.23 trillion in taxes over the past eight months, a 24% year-on-year rise.

According to the latest report, 106 foreign firms have filed for taxes on the department’s electronic portal, up by 10 businesses from the previous month.

Major global tech companies, including Meta (Facebook), Google, Microsoft, TikTok, Netflix and Apple, account for 90% of the cross-border e-commerce market in Vietnam.

In January-August this year, the tax department has conducted more than 38,705 inspections and audits, proposing VND39.86 trillion for handling through inspections and audits.

By the end of August, the total amount of recovered tax debt had reached an estimated VND53.77 trillion, a 29% increase versus the same period last year.
