HCMC – The Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy at the Ministry of Industry and Trade has instructed Temu to suspend its sales operations in Vietnam until it completes the required licensing procedures, the local media reported.
Temu, an online marketplace operated by the Chinese e-commerce company PDD Holdings, has gained popularity in Vietnam in a short period of time thanks to its steep discounts.
The department has called for consumers to avoid using unlicensed platforms, including Temu, to protect their rights. It has told Temu to make refunds for any unfulfilled orders, emphasizing the platform’s obligation to reimburse customers if items are not delivered within the promised timeframe.
In October, the department met with Temu’s legal representative, instructing the platform to finalize its registration with the Ministry of Industry and Trade by November. Temu was also directed to display warning banners on its website and app, notifying Vietnamese users of its pending registration status.
Failure to meet the November deadline prompted the suspension order. Additionally, Temu has been directed to remove promotional and marketing campaigns that violate consumer protection law.
