Venturing from the northern city of Yen Bai along National Highway 32 for approximately five hours unveils one of Vietnam’s most breathtaking natural wonders – Khau Pha Pass in Khau Pha Commune, Mu Cang Chai District.

The 20-kilometer-long Khau Pha Pass resembles a delicate silk ribbon gracefully traversing the mountain slopes, earning its place among the four greatest passes in the northern region alongside O Quy Ho, Pha Din, and Ma Pi Leng.

For the local ethnic communities, Khau Pha Pass is of profound significance. It serves as a sacred site where they seek solace during challenging times or offer prayers for favorable weather and abundant harvests at the convergence of heaven and earth atop the pass.

Khau Pha is most enchanting during the harvest season, typically in September and October. During this time, the terraced fields adorn themselves in hues of gold akin to honey, creating a breathtaking panorama. It is also a season of festivals, celebrating the rich ethnic culture and the unparalleled beauty of the terraced landscapes.
