Thaco and multiple CSR programs

Must read

Since the Covid-19 pandemic broke out, Thaco – a multi-sector group that has won the confidence of millions of customers – has continually launched activities to help with the fight against the deadly disease. Lending a generous hand to the campaign against Covid-19, however, is just one among numerous corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs that Thaco has engaged in.

Community programs have always been treasured at Thaco as a beautiful tradition of the firm, says Nguyen Mot, communication director of Thaco, adding that sharing difficulties with the community has been the responsibility of Thaco and its staff.

Acts of kindness amid Covid-19 pandemic

The Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee on July 17 conveyed gratitude to Thaco for its donation of VND10 billion to the national fund on Covid-19 prevention and control. The group, in fact, has donated some VND25 billion to the fight against the coronavirus to date.

Apart from the donation made to the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, Thaco has presented medical equipment valued at over VND11 billion to the coronavirus hotspots, especially Danang, Quang Nam and Thua Thien-Hue.

Also, Thaco has gifted VND2.3 billion for buying an extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) machine to Cho Ray Hospital in HCMC, and donated a central monitor and six screens worth a combined VND1.36 billion to the HCMC Hospital for Tropical Diseases.

Thaco expects these donations to contribute to minimizing the impact of Covid-19 and protecting some 20,000 employees at the group and local residents.

“With the business philosophy of bringing good values to customers and the community and contributing to the nation’s economic growth, we consider our community activities as social responsibility rather than sponsorship,” says Nguyen Mot.

Bridges for the countryside

Interlacing canals in the Mekong Delta region have made locals’ travel more difficult for long. Responding to the former State President Truogn Tan Sang’s call on constructing concrete bridges in localities with underdeveloped infrastructure, Thaco has sponsored over VND15 billion to build 21 bridges in Long An Province.

Aside from this, Thaco has financed VND5 billion for a project to build Doc Binh Kieu Bridge costing over VND13 billion in Thap Muoi District of Dong Thap Province. On July 4, at the inauguration ceremony of the bridge, Lieutenant General Vo Thai Hoa, former Deputy Minister of Public Security, said: “The bridge has been a dream and a desire of locals for ages. We thanked the generous sponsors for their kindness. The bridge is expected to facilitate traffic in the locality and create leverage for the provincial economic growth.”

The group also reached out to the central region by spending VND600 billion on the Chu Lai two-level roundabout in Quang Nam Province’s Nui Thanh District in December 2018. Furthermore, Thaco installed water filtering systems with a total cost of VND4.5 billion at a number of schools in Nui Thanh District in early 2019. The systems are benefiting 25,000 students in the district.

Kind-hearted blood donor

Following the Government’s call to help improving the quality of life for the poor, especially those in far-flung places, Thaco has been among big charitable givers in the country with the mission of leaving no one behind. The group has since 2018 donated over VND75 billion to build houses for poor people and help them enjoy the traditional Lunar New Year.

Each year, employees of the group participate in blood donation programs, donating over 20,000 blood units over the past 14 years to contribute to addressing blood shortage and help save patients in need in the country.

At Thaco-Chu Lai Industrial Park in Quang Nam Province, a club called “Blood Bank” is being run by the group’s workers with an aim to timely donate blood when an emergency occurs at hospitals in the province.

Nurturing sport spirit

Support for sports is another deep respect in Thaco’s CSR activities. “We have accompanied football teams for over 10 years,” says Nguyen Mot.

In 2018, Thaco handed VND1 billion and VND2 billion to the Vietnam U23 football team and the national football team, respectively. Besides this, the group donated a Kia Optima car and US$100,000 to coach Park Hang-seo, who led the football teams to notch up meaningful gains for the Vietnamese football.

To make football further develop in the country, Thaco has acted as a main sponsor of Hoang Anh Gia Lai Football Club and HAGL-JMG Academy.

Making great efforts to contribute to a sustainable community, Thaco has also attended to education, awarding scholarships to students in various cities and provinces such as HCMC, Dong Nai, Quang Nam and Danang.

As for those with meritorious service during the country’s wars, Thaco has deployed a program to take care of Vietnamese heroic mothers in Quang Nam Province over the past few years. Each heroic mother is handed VND1 million monthly.
