Three firefighters killed battling inferno in Hanoi

HCMC – Three firefighters were killed while fighting a blaze to rescue victims at an under-repair karaoke parlor in Hanoi City’s Cau Giay District on Monday, August 1.

The three members of the fire fighting and prevention team under the Cau Giay Police Division were identified as Lieutenant Colonel Dang Anh Quan, head of the team, Lieutenant Do Duc Viet and Private Nguyen Dinh Phuc.

They reportedly rescued eight people trapped in the fire before being killed by a stair collapse on the fourth floor.

According to the preliminary investigation results, a fire erupted on the fifth floor of the six-floor karaoke parlor which is being repaired on Quan Hoa Street in Quan Hoa Ward at 2:00 p.m. on the day.

The fire quickly swept through the facility and created a giant column of black smoke, panicking residents nearby, the local media reported.

Many fire trucks, ladder trucks and firefighters were dispatched to the scene to conduct rescue operations and put out the fire. The fire was put under control at 9:21 p.m.

After being informed of the deaths, State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc sent condolences to the families of the deceased.
