HCMC – Work will soon begin to connect Tran Quoc Hoan Street at a gateway to the Tan Son Nhat International Airport to Cong Hoa Street in Tan Binh District, which once completed in 2024, will help address the traffic congestion around the airport.

The HCMC government has just approved the project costing nearly VND4.85 trillion for execution in 2021-2024, which will connect the imminent T3 terminal of the airport with the traffic system. The project owner is the HCMC Management Board for Traffic Works Construction and Investment, which will source investment from the HCMC budget, local media reported.

The project will comprise several components, including the main road, a viaduct in front of the terminal, two underpasses and lighting and water drainage systems.

The road, stretching over 4 kilometers, starts from Tran Quoc Hoan Street near the intersection with Phan Thuc Duyen Street and ends at Cong Hoa Street near the Truong Chinh Junction. The viaduct along the road measures 987 meters and accommodates four traffic lanes. The two underpasses have a combined length of 42 meters.

The project owner is assigned to work with relevant agencies, including the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, the Tan Binh District government and military units whose facilities will be affected by the project, to complete all construction paperwork, site clearance and compensation.

The new road, with four to six traffic lanes, must be executed in sync with the Terminal T3 project at the airport to ensure smooth connectivity and improve operations of the airport. It is expected to ease traffic congestion on Truong Son Street as the main gateway to the airport, as well as other minor streets in the airport vicinity such as Phan Thuc Duyen, Cong Hoa and Hoang Hoa Tham.
