Traffic surges on highways as mass Tet migration underway

HCMC – Two expressways — HCMC-Long Thanh-Dau Giay and Vinh Hao-Phan Thiet — was heavily congested this morning, February 3, as the mass Lunar New Year holiday migration from HCMC to other parts of the country is underway.

At 7:00 a.m. today, traffic was moving inch by inch on a 10-kilometer section on Vinh Hao-Phan Thiet expressway near the Vinh Hao intersection.

The Ministry of Public Security’s Traffic Police Department which is in charge of expressways attributed the congestion to short green light intervals at the intersection while vehicluar traffic was extremely heavy on the expressway.

Therefore, the traffic police instructed cars to exit the expressway to National Highway 1A via the Dai Ninh exit in Bac Binh District, Binh Thuan Province. Moreover, green light interval adjustments were made in the Vinh Hao commune area to reduce the traffic pressure on the expressway.

On the same day, traffic was also very heavy on the HCMC-Long Thanh-Dau Giay expressway, which was aggravated by as multiple vehicle collisions.

The access road to the HCMC-Long Thanh-Dau Giay expressway in the direction from HCMC to southeastern and central provinces had been shut by the afternoon due to a heavy traffic jam on the expressway.

Traffic has been moving inch by inch on multiple roads in HCMC’s eastern gateway to other provinces.
