HCMC – The Vietnam Maritime Administration plans to transfer the Tran De channel dredging project to Soc Trang Province for implementation under new regulations.

Initially, the Vietnam Maritime Administration, the Soc Trang People’s Committee, and the consulting unit signed a contract for the project’s implementation. However, after Government Decree No. 57/2024/ND-CP came out in May 2024, regarding the management of dredging activities in port waters and inland waterways, the project now falls under the jurisdiction of Soc Trang Province.

The dredging project aims to enable Tran De channel to accommodate vessels weighing up to 2,000 MT, facilitating access to ports in Soc Trang and Hau Giang.

Recently, the Soc Trang People’s Committee held a meeting with the Vietnam Maritime Administration to discuss the project’s execution, which involves dredging and product recovery from the Tran De maritime channel located in the coastal area of Soc Trang.

According to a report by the Maritime Construction Consulting Joint Stock Company, the project will span from buoy number P0 to buoy P16, covering around 22 kilometers. The project has an expected construction duration of 351 days and needs a total investment of over VND165 billion which will be funded by Soc Trang’s budget.
