HCMC – The Ministry of Transport has proposed re-opening some of the auto registration and inspection centers which have been suspended due to bribery allegations.

Their resumption would help cope with long lines of vehicles waiting for safety testing at operational centers ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday, or Tet.

The transport ministry will work with Vietnam Register and the Ministry of Public Security to arrange human resources and necessary equipment when those centers are allowed to restart operations.

Recently, Vietnam Register came up with solutions to reduce congestion in front of the operational auto testing centers, including increasing work hours, working on weekends and deploying experienced personnel to assist the centers that are being overwhelmed with autos.

However, they still could not handle a surge in inspection demands, resulting in long waits at the operational facilities throughout the countries, especially in HCMC, Hanoi, Binh Duong and Dong Nai.

The Ministry of Transport and local police previously detected irregularities and suspended many auto registration and inspection facilities in the country.

Among 280 automobile registration and inspection centers, 29 have been suspended due to the investigations, mostly in HCMC and Hanoi.
